Sweet and Sour chicken…. Takeout from your kitchen part two!

Hi guys.

Hope your weekend has been great? So promised to treat you guys to my special take out home made recipe. And here is number two!

Sweet and sour is a dish that I love. 

I have always wondered how they made it, but never bothered to find out, until one day.

Ever since then, I made up my mind to always create my takeout favourites at home. 

And the good thing about it is that you can control the calories and contents. Happy days! 😊 

Prep time: 10 minutes 

Cooking time: 15 minutes 

Total time: 25 minutes 


  •  2 large chicken breasts 
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato ketchup 
  • 3 tablespoons of vinegar 
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce 
  • 3/4 cup of water 
  • 2 tablespoons of brown or demarera sugar 
  • 1 egg 
  • 2 tablespoons of corn flour 
  • 1 tablespoon of water (to mix the corn flour) 
  •  1/2 a teaspoon of salt 
  • 1/2 of black pepper 
  • 1 tablespoon of Chinese five seasoning 
  • 1 red pepper 
  • I green pepper 
  • 1 can of pineapple 
  • 1 tablespoon of oil


  • Wok 
  • Frying pan 
  • Woden spoon 

The above will serve 2 people. 
Let’s begin. 

Cut your chicken breast into stripes and then cut it not small cubes. Season it with the Chinese five spice, salt and pepper.

  Next, whisk the egg and add it to the seasoned chicken, mix together.


Add one of the tablespoon of corn flour and mix. Set aside to be fried.



Heat 1 tablespoon of oil, add the chicken and fry until golden brown. Drain the fried chicken on a paper towel to get rid of any excess oil.

Cut up your peppers into small squares.

Next cut the pineapple and remove the pips. Cut them into small bite size pieces, Set aside.

To make the sweet and sour sauce, 

combine all the remaining ingredients (vinegar, water, ketchup, soy sauce, and sugar) and let it boil. 

Mix the last tablespoon of corn flour with 1 tablespoon of water first. (This is to ensure that the corn flour does not form lumps in the sauce) 

Next add it to the sauce and continue to cook until it is semi thick.

Once it’s cooked and thickened.

Let it cool down for a bit.

In another frying pan or work, fry your peppers, then add the pineapple. Please for for only 30 seconds, so that the nutrients is not lost. 😊


Then pour the sauce into the wok with the fried peppers and stir. Cook for 3 minutes until well combined.

Finally add the chicken and cook so that the chicken absorbs the sauce for 5 minutes on medium heat.

Turn off the heat and plate it up. Serve with boiled plain rice or jasmine rice.
