Italian, recommended, Sauces

Homemade Lasagna.

Hi guys. How are you all doing? This recipe has been on my mind for a while and like most of my post, I always strive to keep it simple, clean and also cook a healthier version. 😉

Lasagne is a classic dish and its not just a meal you prepare in 5 minutes. It takes time, but not too much time so don’t panic 🙂

The longer you cook the sauce, the tastier your dish will be. Trust me on this 🙂

Let’s begin shall we 🙂

1 pack of good quality minced meat

1 can of Plum tomatoes

1 scotch bonnet pepper

2 tablespoon of Mixed herbs spice

2 cloves of Garlic

1 large Onions

2 tablespoons of Vegetable oil

1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (for greasing the pan)

2 tablespoons of Tomato puree

2 packs of Lasagna sheets. (I used the italian cook wholewheat sheet, its easier to cook and it’s better quality)

1 jar of Light Lasagna White sauce (low in fat)
Salt to taste

1 Knorr cubes or knorr sauce pot ( I used sauce pot, much tastier (picture is below)

medium sized sauce pan
Baking dish
Wooden spoon

Prep time : 10 minutes
Cooking time : 1 hour: 20 minutes
Total time : 1 hour : 30 minutes

Method :

Heat up your oven to about 180 degrees

Pictures of the ingredients used.

Next, add 2 tablespoons of oil to the saucepan, let it heat up and then add the finely chopped onions and garlic and fry for 5 minutes on a low heat (keep stirring so that the garlic does not burn)

Next add the minced meat, stir until the colour changes to brown, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes. (This will allow the garlic and onion infuse with the beef, which makes it tasty) 👌

While the beef is cooking, blend the pepper and tomatoes.

After 10 minutes, add the blended pepper to the minced meat, add the spices, tomato puree, knorr cube and then cover. Cook uninterrupted for 25 minutes (use the lowest heat it allows the ingredients to infuse properly)

Next boil water (the water has to be boiled) and place the Lasagna sheets in it. Do not put everything at once. Let the sheets stay in the water for 3-4 minutes each. Make sure you space it out completely or else it will stick together. This helps the pasta cook better and comes out soft and not hard (See picture below)

By now the sauce should be cooked and your kitchen should be filled with the lovely aroma. 😉

Light grease the baking dish with oil. Then spoon some of the mince meat mixture into the dish.

Next place the sheets on top of the minced meat.

Next add the white lasagna sauce on top of the sheets. (See the picture below)

Repeat the same process with the beef, sheets and sauce. (Make sure no matter what, you end up with the sauce on top.)

Next sprinkle it with some cheese and pop it in the oven for 40 minutes.

After 40 minutes your lasagne should be done, however, if you want the top to be a darker and a lot more crispy, leave it in the oven for 55 minutes.

That’s it you are done, well done!

That’s it form me today 😉
