Chicken in blackbean sauce

Hi guys, how are you all doing today? This recipe was something I made last year and i realised I never blogged about it. so it was sitting in a category section and it didnt make the blog post. I have so many post, that I forget to blog about after making, not that it wasnt importatnt, its just that i had quite a bit to choose from.

Anyways not withstanding, I will be sharing all of it this year, so please bear with me as I may potentially flood your inbox. hehehe

I like chinese food, but i have always preferred to make them at home, that way i can control the sodium and also the oil and the not so seen ingredients. chinese food is great, but i’d rather control my portion and what is being added in order for me to enjoy it guilt free.

Most of the ingredients that I used are very easy to find, so its not gonna be hard work. I will advice to use fresh ingredients and also try and make the sauce from scratch, its much more tastier and satisfying than the ready made version.

ok, lets get started shall we 🙂


  • 1 tablespoon Black bean paste
  • Chicken breast
  • 2 teaspoon of Corn flour
  • Onions
  • 2 teaspoons of Light soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of Dark soy sauce
  • 1 tablespooon + another tablespoon of Cooking wine (sake)
  • A Bunch of Spring onions
  • 1 medium sized Carrots
  • 1 Red pepper
  • 1 Yellow pepper
  • 1 Green pepper
  • 1 cup of water 
  • 2 teaspoons of grated ginger
  • 2 teaspoons of grated Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon + 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

The above serves 2 people

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 25 minutes
Total time: 40 minutes

Rinse the chicken breast and dice into medium sizes.

Next add the corn flour, the rice wine(1 teaspoon) light soy sauce( 2 teaspoons),
1/2 a teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of oil. Mix to combine and set aside.

Next mix the black bean paste with the garlic, ginger and the 1 teaspoon of dark soy sauce

Place the wok on the fire, add the vegetable oil (2 tablespoons) and let it heat up and then add the onions. Fry until it becomes soft. 2 minutes.

Next add the chopped pre seasoned chicken and let it fry for 5 minutes (stirring often)

Next add the sliced carrots, (see picture of the way to slice the carrots) and the black bean mixture. Let it combine for 2 minute

Next add the 1 cup of water and the last of the cooking wine (1 tablespoon) salt and allow to cook for 13 minutes on low heat.

After 13 minutes, finally add the scallions and peppers. Allow to soften for only 3 minutes.

Thats it all done! 👏👏👏👏

Serve with rice
