Spicy Yamarita

Hi guys. Hope you are all having a great day? I promised to update you all on my spicy Yamarita recipe and here it is. I have already blogged about Yamarita, so I decided to take it to the next level by adding more ingredients and making it versatile.

I have always been a fan of spicy, but i decided to mellow it down just a bit for the benefit of everyone to enjoy. I will be serving this with a yummy sauce. So lets get started shall we

  • Half a tuber of Yam
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon of suya spice
  • Half a tablespoon of dry pepper
  • Half a tablespoon of cameroon pepper
  • Half a cup of flour
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

  • 2 large Tatashe
  • 5 habanero pepper (rodo)
  • 1 large onion
  • Beef
  • 2 medium sized tomatoes
  • Half a cup of Olive oil
  • 1 knorr cube

  • 2 medium sized pots
  • Frying pan or wok
  • Blender or food processor

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cooking/frying time: tbc

*to help save time it is best to boil your meat way ahead of actual cooking time. This saves you time and preparation time is also reduced. Boil your meat with sliced onions, garlic powder and salt. Or season as desired*

Peel and slice the yam into rectangular shapes.  Wash the starch off and soak in salty water until needed.

How to:
Remove the yam from the salty water, place in a pot, add fresh water and some salt and then cook for 13 minutes (anymore than that may break the yam)

Whilst the yam is boiling, wash and slice the peppers and onions.

Place on a grilling pan and grill for 10 minutes ( reduce the heat so it doesn’t burn).

Check on the yam. Once cooked, drain the water and set aside.

Also check on the peppers. Remove from heat and then low to cool down.
Break the eggs into a bowl. Add the seasonings and mix

Next season the flour with 1 tablespoon of Suya Spice

Next dip the yam in the seasoned egg mixture

Next place it in the spiced flour. Allow it to coat it well. Do it by rolling it in the flour

Place it in the frying pan and fry.

Do steps 1-3 in large batches so that you can fry more at the same time.

Once it’s all fried, place it on a kitchen towel. This will get rid of excess oil.

Roughly blend the grilled peppers in the blender/food processor
Heat up the oil and and add the extra sliced onions.
Allow to heat up for 3 minutes. Then add the blended pepper and fry.

You won’t necessarily need to fry for that long, as the peppers have already been grilled, so less time for that. 15 minutes

Next add the grilled meat. You can use the meat as a whole or you can cut it up. I cut mine up.

Add the knorr cube. Then allow it to simmer on low heat for 8 minutes

All done. It’s time to plate up and enjoy this amazing goodness

I even decided to make it as a delicious package

That’s it from me today.

I’ll see you all in my next post

Love Duchess O
