Tangerine Beef

Hi everyone. Hope you are all doing good? So this past week, o have been thinking of what to make, and tangerine kept coming to mind. I was like oh that could work, as I haven’t done a thrift with tangerine before. So I researched a lot online. There were lots of variations. But I had to choose from various ingredients to see what will work well and what won’t.

The thing about beef and citrus is that you need the remaining ingredients to complement and not over power. Beef has its own aroma and taste, all you need to to is find the right balance and there you have it.

The awesome thing about this dish is that it’s not complicated to make. And you will always have that flavour bursting in your tongue experience every one you make it. So go ahead and give your self a treat.

Ok let’s get started shall we 🙂

  • 900 grams of Beef strips (use according to the amount that you have available)
  • 6 table spoons of Light soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup of Soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup of Sesame oil
  • 1/4 Rice wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup of tangerine juice
  • 4 cloves of Garlic
  • Thumb sized Ginger
  • 3 medium sized Tangerine
  • 1 cup of Shredded carrot
  • 1 cup of Mixed peppers (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons of Oil
  • Scallions (spring onions)
  • 2 tablespoons of Honey
  • 5 tablespoons of Corn starch

  • Wok
  • Wooden spoon
  • Bowl

Prep time: 15 minutes

Marinade time: 30 minutes -4hours (depending on the time you have to spare)

Cooking time: 40 minutes

Mix the soy sauce, rice wine, tangerine, sesame oil, chilli flakes in a bowl.
Next add the sliced beef. Allow to marinade for 1hr-3 hours

After marinading, remove the beef from the marinade and discard the marinade. When removing the beef, ensure the marinade is not clinging to it

Place the beef in a sieve to get rid of excess liquid. (This will stop the beef from forming a paste whilst frying)

Heat up the oil and add the beef, little at a time. Try not to overcrowd the pot

Fry until the meat has been well browned (make sure you keep stiring to keep it from burning) 10 minutes

Once the beef has been fried, remove it from the pan and set aside.

Add extra oil to the pan

Next add the grated garlic and ginger. Fry for about a minute (not more or else the garlic will burn)

Add the shredded carrot. Allow to mix for 3 minutes

Next add the beef and mix. Reduce the heat

In a bowl mix up the 1/2 of the Tangerine juice, soysauce, honey,

Next add it to the beef mixture

Let t simmer for 5 minutes

Next mix the corn starch with the remaining tangerine juice, once mixed, add it to the beef. (Make sure you keep stiring whist adding the mixture to the beef or else it will clump up on one side)

You will notice it will become thick, that’s ok, it’s meant to do that. If you find it too thick, add a little bit of water to loosen it up.

Finally add some grated tangerine zest. (Do not skip this, it’s very vital to take this sauce to another level) allow to mix into the sauce for 2 minutes and then take it off from the cooker

That’s it you are all done. Wasn’t that an amazing experience?

There you go

That’s it from me today
I will see you all in my next post

Love Duchess O
